Sometimes simple is best

I'm so used to doing complex designs with my soap that I forget how beautiful the simple look can be. As I was preparing to to make batch of Spiced Amber soap, I asked Nathan to sniff the fragrance and what colour he thought it should be. He said light brown. I turned my nose up at his suggestion - plain light brown soap! But then I thought, why not? So I made the base a pale cream (it will get slightly darker over time), whipped up the tops, and sprinkled some luxurious gold glitter on the tops. I cut them this morning - and I think they're just lovely.

Spiced Amber is a gorgeous blend of spices, warm amber, woods, patchouli and vanilla.

  9. Oow la la. You're so right, simple can be so elegant. Matching colors with scents can be tricky. You nailed it though! Spiced Amber fits beautifully with a zing of gold.

  10. Is there a chance that you have or know of a book that would help me begin to make soaps like yours. I teach and I'm 60. The US is talking so badly of teachers I'm discouraged. Have followed your blog for some time and feel much encouraged that when I leave teaching maybe I could try my hand at soap making. So beautiful! What lovely work you do. Thank you for any help you can give.
